The event was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh and ACC Secretary-General Shi Zhongjun, along with several ambassadors, representatives from ASEAN embassies, international students from local universities, and Vietnamese students studying in Beijing.

According to Ambassador Binh, the film provided Chinese audiences and international friends an opportunity to experience Viet Nam’s beautiful natural landscapes, simple way of life, and distinctive cultural features, thereby further nurturing feelings of friendship between Viet Nam and other countries.

According to ACC Secretary-General Shi Zhongjun, “Viet Nam Movie Night” is the first activity organised by the ACC in 2026, holding special significance as it commemorates the 76th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Viet Nam, as well as the fifth anniversary of the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The film is not only a story of love and youth, but also a wonderful journey that brings audiences closer to Viet Nam, Shi said.

The event took place as part of the ASEAN Movie Night series, which aims to promote cultural diversity and help Chinese audiences and international friends gain a deeper understanding of the beauty of Southeast Asia.

“Once Upon a Love Story”, directed by Trinh Dinh Le Minh, is a cinematic adaptation of the short story of the same name by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh.

The film is not only a romantic coming-of-age story conveying messages of friendship and personal growth among three childhood friends, but also a vivid portrait of Viet Nam’s landscapes, people, and traditional spiritual values.

Following the screening, delegates and audience members engaged in discussions to share their impressions of the film and enjoyed Vietnamese cuisine.
