French audiences and Vietnamese community anticipate Vietnamese Film Week in Paris

A Vietnamese film delegation led by Dr Ngo Phuong Lan, Chairwoman of the Viet Nam Film Development Association (VFDA), has departed for Paris to organise and attend the Vietnamese Film Week themed “Journey of Light” — the largest and most high-profile Vietnamese cinema event ever held in France, which is set to take place from December 5 to 12.

The film ‘Tu Chien Tren Khong’ (Hijacked) has been selected as the opening screening of the Vietnamese Film Week “Journey of Light” in Paris.

The delegation includes senior members of the VFDA, the Viet Nam Film Institute, as well as notable film directors and artists.

The Vietnamese Film Week is organised by the VFDA and the Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts Global (AVSE Global), under the patronage of the Vietnamese Embassy in France, and is enthusiastically awaited by French audiences and the Vietnamese diaspora.

This event is recognised as the most extensive Vietnamese cinema programme ever held in Europe. It will run at Le Grand Rex in Paris — one of the world’s largest and most renowned cinemas, once voted the most beautiful cinema in the world by Time Out — from December 5 to 12.

Dinh Trong Tuan, former Editor-in-Chief of The World of Cinema magazine, a member of the VFDA Executive Committee, and a key leader of the delegation, stated: “The Vietnamese Film Week marks the opening of the cultural programme ‘Viet Nam – The Symphony of Love’, aimed at promoting and spreading Vietnamese culture across the world.

The event will showcase seventeen outstanding Vietnamese films produced in the 50 years since national reunification in 1975, covering a wide range of genres, from feature films and documentaries to short films. Many of these works have made their mark at major international film festivals such as Cannes, Busan, Berlin, Hawaii, and Nantes, and have also received prestigious awards in Viet Nam.”

According to Dinh Trong Tuan, the Vietnamese Film Week “Journey of Light” in Paris is not only a cultural event but also a bridge of art and knowledge, helping expand cultural and artistic cooperation while contributing to a deeper global understanding of Viet Nam through the language of cinema.

The event will bring together more than fifty directors, actors, and artists from Viet Nam and abroad. They include leading film-makers, performers, producers and experts in cinema and the arts from Viet Nam, France, and other countries.

These artists will engage directly with French and European audiences, sharing creative experiences and professional stories, while fostering connections between generations, from veteran figures who have shaped Vietnamese cinema to young talents who are continuing to renew and elevate Viet Nam’s cinematic presence on the global map.
