Within the framework of the 2026 Economic Diplomacy Programme, a delegation from the Embassy of Viet Nam in Pakistan, led by Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan, paid a working visit to Karachi — the former capital of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan — from May 11 to 13, with the aim of promoting economic and trade cooperation between Viet Nam and this highly promising port city.

In addition to being Pakistan’s former capital, Karachi is also the country’s principal port city as well as a major financial, commercial, and industrial centre. During the visit, the Vietnamese Embassy delegation organised and participated in seminars, trade fairs, and meetings with leading Pakistani enterprises.

As part of the programme, together with representatives of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry and local authorities, Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan attended and officiated at the opening ceremony of the 23rd International Trade and Industry Fair (ITIF-23) in Karachi.

As one of the region’s major trade events, ITIF-23 attracted participation from representatives of associations and leading enterprises from Pakistan and China specialising in pharmaceuticals, machinery manufacturing, high-precision mechanical processing, machine tools, mining, and plastics processing.

On this occasion, Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan held discussions with Muhammad Rehan Hanif, President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), and the chamber’s leadership, while jointly organising a seminar titled “Promoting Viet Nam–Pakistan trade relations in the new regional context.”

More than 30 Pakistani enterprises, including businesses from Karachi, attended the seminar. These companies have maintained long-standing business relations with regional markets and Viet Nam. Through the event, they expressed a desire to gain deeper insights into the Vietnamese market and policies, resolve technical difficulties, and explore business opportunities and partnerships.

Emphasising that the seminar was a key activity aimed at strengthening links between associations and enterprises of the two countries and encouraging joint venture projects, Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan and representatives of the Viet Nam Trade Office in Karachi affirmed that Viet Nam stands ready to support Pakistani enterprises in accessing the Vietnamese market, particularly for Halal products serving Muslim communities.

Representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy also addressed concerns raised by several enterprises, particularly issues relating to entry visas for Pakistani businesspeople travelling to Viet Nam to meet partners and inspect supply sources. On the occasion, the Viet Nam Trade Office in Karachi also invited leaders and representatives of KCCI and Pakistani enterprises to attend the Viet Nam International Sourcing Fair scheduled to take place in Ho Chi Minh City in September 2026.

During the working visit to Karachi, Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan and the embassy delegation also met with representatives of the Pakistan Tea Association. At the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining trade relations, tapping cooperation potential, and seeking solutions to boost tea exports, particularly Halal-certified CTC black tea, to the Pakistani market.

Accordingly, Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan proposed that both sides increase business delegation exchanges, organise trade promotion programmes, promote products, and build the Vietnamese tea brand in Pakistan, while also facilitating the transit of Vietnamese green tea through Pakistan to the Afghan market.

Representatives of Pakistani tea enterprises candidly discussed practical challenges, including technical barriers, quarantine regulations, traceability requirements, customs clearance procedures, and especially visa issuance for representatives of Pakistani tea companies entering Viet Nam.

Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan affirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy and Trade Office in Pakistan would continue accompanying and supporting enterprises in addressing difficulties and further promoting substantive and effective cooperation in the tea sector, thereby contributing to increased bilateral trade turnover in the coming years.

Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan also visited and worked at the headquarters of the Al Rahim Group, a corporation specialising in solution development and service provision, particularly in tourism promotion, including passenger and cargo aviation, consular support services, and Halal food.

During the meeting, the ambassador shared information on Viet Nam’s socio-economic development achievements in recent years and the country’s future development orientations. He also acknowledged the information and proposals for cooperation with Vietnamese enterprises presented by the group.
