The Party Committee and Embassy of Viet Nam in Cambodia, in coordination with the Khmer-Vietnamese Association and the Viet Nam-Cambodia Business Association, held a ceremony in Phnom Penh, on August 22, to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 –August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025). The event brought together around 300 guests.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu underlined the historic significance of the great August Revolution and of President Ho Chi Minh’s reading of the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square, which gave birth to the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam - the first people’s democratic state in Southeast Asia, now the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam - marking a resplendent milestone in the nation’s history.

The ambassador expressed his delight at Viet Nam’s outstanding achievements over the past 80 years. From a poor country, Viet Nam has risen to become an upper-middle-income nation, with improved living standards and enhanced international standing.
Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu affirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia has stood alongside the Vietnamese community and the Khmer people for over 40 years, helping to strengthen Viet Nam–Cambodia friendship. He called on the Vietnamese community in Cambodia to maintain unity and contribute to the sustainable development of both countries.

Sharing his thoughts at the event, Sim Chy, Chairman of the Khmer-Viet Nam Association in Cambodia, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the care, support and assistance of the Party and State of Viet Nam. He emphasised that although Vietnamese people live and work far from their homeland, they always remember and look towards their roots, especially the glorious traditions of the nation in building and defending the Fatherland.

At the ceremony, representatives of the Viet Nam–Cambodia Business Association and the Vietnamese Students’ Association in Cambodia also delivered speeches, highlighting their pride in the nation’s origins and affirming their commitment to active engagement in work and study, making practical contributions to strengthening Viet Nam–Cambodia cooperation.
As part of the celebration, delegates reviewed the country’s development over the past 80 years and the special neighbourly relations between Viet Nam and Cambodia. They also enjoyed a vibrant art programme praising the homeland and the traditional friendship between Viet Nam and Cambodia performed by the Bong Sen Traditional Music and Dance Troupe from Ho Chi Minh City.
