The event was attended by senior and local Cambodian leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organisations and Vietnamese businesses in Cambodia, and Vietnamese people in Cambodia.
In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Minh Vu affirmed the historical significance of September 2, 1945, which marked Viet Nam’s transformation from a colonial country into an independent and unified nation.
Regarding Viet Nam-Cambodia relations in recent times, the Vietnamese diplomat stressed that the high-level visits by the leaders of the two countries have continued to strengthen political trust while elevating bilateral relations to a new level.
Against this backdrop, economic ties continued to be a bright spot, with bilateral trade reaching a record nearly 7.8 billion USD in the first seven months of 2026, up 10.3% year on year.
For his part, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun extended his congratulations to the leaders and people of Viet Nam on the 81st anniversary of their National Day, congratulating Viet Nam on its dynamic socio-economic development.
Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun expressed his confidence that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, headed by General Secretary and President To Lam, Viet Nam would achieve the major goals it has set.
The Cambodian government official affirmed that the country attaches great importance to its ties with Viet Nam, and always remembers the sacrifices made by Vietnamese volunteer forces and people in helping Cambodia escape the genocidal regime.
He expressed his delight at the continued development of bilateral relations across politics, the economy, and people-to-people exchanges, with Viet Nam having remained Cambodia’s third-largest trading partner since 2022.
The Cambodian Deputy PM stressed that in 2027, the two sides would jointly organise a range of activities to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1967-2027).
At the ceremony, more than 500 guests visited a photo exhibition featuring the two countries’ notable diplomatic activities in recent times and promotional booths of prominent Vietnamese companies investing in Cambodia, while enjoying Vietnamese cuisine and musical performances.
