President of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man offered incense in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at House 67 in the Ho Chi Minh Relic Site within the President Palace complex in Ha Noi on the afternoon of September 2.

President Ho Chi Minh began writing his Testament on May 10, 1965. That year, at the age of 75—an age traditionally regarded as rare—his health had begun to decline. He considered this first draft of the Testament a top-secret document and entrusted it to his secretary Vu Ky for safekeeping.

In August 1945, the Vietnamese people rose up to secure the right to self-determination, driven by two sacred values: independence and freedom. Eighty-one years later, following 40 years of Doi Moi (Renewal), Viet Nam has traversed a protracted journey, from a centrally planned and subsidised economy to the aspiration of building a strong and prosperous nation.

Eighty-one years ago, on September 2, 1945, at historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh delivered the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming the birth of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam — now the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
