This was a special highlight of the ceremony marking the 81st National Day of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (September 2, 1945-2026), organised by the Vietnamese Consulate General in Perth, Western Australia. The ceremony was chaired by Pham Hai Anh, Vietnamese Consul General in Perth.
Speaking at the ceremony, Consul General Pham Hai Anh recalled the great historical significance of September 2, 1945 — the moment that opened an era of independence and freedom for the Vietnamese nation. Over the past 81 years, that spirit has continued to guide the aspiration to build a peaceful, unified, democratic, and prosperous country that is deeply integrated into the world.
Regarding Viet Nam-Australia bilateral relations, Consul General Pham Hai Anh emphasised that the relationship is developing strongly, especially following the state visit to Australia by To Lam,General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee and State President. The visit produced many important documents and cooperation agreements in such fields as sustainable agriculture, maritime law enforcement, border cooperation, vocational education, the digital economy, healthcare,and aviation.
On the occasion, Consul General Pham Hai Anh acknowledged and highly valued the positive contributions of the Vietnamese community in Western Australia towards the promotion of Viet Nam-Australia bilateral relations, as well as their efforts to preserve cultural identity and look towards the homeland.
According to Consul General Pham Hai Anh, the upcoming visit to Viet Nam by Premier Roger Cook promises to create new momentum and expand substantive cooperation between the two sides.
Speaking at the ceremony, Western Australian Premier Roger Cook affirmed that relations between Viet Nam and Western Australia are developing positively, with ample room to promote two-way trade and investment, especially in such areas as resource extraction, energy transition, sustainable agriculture, education, tourism,and cultural exchange.
Premier Roger Cook highly appreciated the positive contributions of the Vietnamese community in Western Australia in the fields of economy, education, science,and agriculture, as well as its role in preserving the state’s cultural diversity. He expressed his expectation that his visit to Viet Nam in late September 2026 willopen many new and practical cooperation opportunities for both sides, while thanking the Vietnamese Consulate General for its coordination and support in preparing for and organising the visit.
The most memorable highlight of this year’s event was the image of the Vietnamese national flag being illuminated for the first time on Perth Town Hall, an iconic building of the city. The red flag with a yellow star shining brightly in the heart of Perth was a moment that brought deep pride and emotion to the Vietnamese community in Western Australia, serving as an affirmation of Viet Nam’s position and identity.
In addition, a photo exhibition introducing the beauty of Viet Nam’s land, people, and culture was also held as part of the programme, helping international friends learn more about Viet Nam and its rich traditions, dynamism, openness, and constant development — an attractive destination with distinctive cultural heritage, a blend of tradition and modernity, and rich cuisine.
