Vietnam and Thailand boost enhanced strategic partnership

General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Minister of Defence, hosted a reception in Hanoi on March 15 for Ambassador of Thailand to Vietnam Nikorndej Balankura, who came to bid farewell at the end of his term.

Speaking at the reception, General Phan Van Giang highly valued the ambassador's contributions to boosting the Vietnam - Thailand enhanced strategic partnership while expressing his belief that Ambassador Nikorndej Balankura will always fulfil his mission in all working positions and constantly nurture Vietnam-Thailand relations.

General Giang stressed that over the past years, Vietnam and Thailand have attached importance to and maintained the promotion of bilateral defence cooperation in many fields including maintaining effective defence policy dialogue and consultation mechanisms; the exchanges between military forces and branches; training; maritime security and safety; and the mutual support at multilateral forums, especially the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) and ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus (ADMM+).

For his part, Ambassador Nikorndej Balankura respectfully thanked the Ministry of Defence of Vietnam for the great support and close coordination during his term and emphasised the important role of defence cooperation in the Vietnam-Thailand relationship.

He also affirmed that, regardless of his position, he will continue in his efforts to enhance to the ties between the two countries.
