The event was attended by President Tran Dai Quang and former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu.
At the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State’s leaders, President Quang presented the Labour Order (first class) to the VAHS.
On the occasion of the anniversary, People’s Teacher Phan Huy Le, who is also Chairman of the VAHS, was also honoured with the Labour Order (third class).
Addressing the ceremony, President Tran Dai Quang emphasised that over the past 50 years, the VAHS had united historians and scientists around the country and connected with numerous historical research and training agencies to promote the development of Vietnam’s historical sciences.
He said that the association had enhanced the communication of historical knowledge, contributing to educating students in national traditions and preserving and promoting the values of the nation’s cultural heritage.
The State leader also expressed appreciation for its contributions to consulting projects and works relating to national history and culture, as well as innovating history programmes and textbooks and methods of teaching and studying history.
The President asked the VAHS to focus on reviewing historical practices to draw lessons for the task of national construction and defence and to provide a scientific basis for building and completing the Party’s line and State’s policies and laws. He urged the association to pay close attention to researching and compiling the book set Vietnam’s National History.
The VAHS should actively participate in communicating historical knowledge and educating people in national traditions, as well as coordinating with the Ministry of Education and Training to improve the quality of teaching and studying history, said the President.
He also noted that it was very essential to hold international forums and seminars on historical events and figures and the country’s sovereignty over its seas and islands, contributing to improving the position of Vietnamese historians at international historical forums.
