Vietnam was determined to win this decisive game for third place after failing to defend their regional top spot due to a 2-1 loss against Myanmar in the semi-finals.

The former regional champs rapidly dominated the game right from the start with a series of attacks on the Lao side seeking to score. Their efforts paid off with an opener from captain Le Thi Thuong in the 29th minute and two goals just a few minutes later by Huynh Nhu and Nguyen Thi Hoa.

After the interval, the Vietnamese players continued to intensify their offense, leaving no chance for the host team to score even a consolation goal. Chuong Thi Kieu, Le Thu Thanh Huong and Nguyen Thi Hoa scored three consecutive goals, sealing an impressive 6-0 victory for Vietnam.

In the final match the same day, Thailand overcame Myanmar with the score of 2-1 to claim this year’s championship title.
