Vietnam gets promotion in Sudirman Cup

Nhan Dan Online - Vietnam brushed aside Ukraine 3-1 in the Group 3 final match at the 2013 Surdiman Cup badminton tournament on Friday to get promoted to play in Group 2 at next year's competition.

Top Vietnamese star Nguyen Tien Minh finished off Ukrainian D.Zavadsky 2-0 in the men's singles event, while teammates Bao Duc and Hoang Nam overcame V.Konov - D.Zavadsky in two straight sets in the men's doubles category.

Duo Vu Thi Trang and Nguyen Thi Sen beat Ukraine's M.Diptan - N.Voytsekh 2-1 in the women's doubles event to seize the overall victory for Vietnam despite the country's only loss in the women's singles discipline.

Earlier, Vietnam coasted through Group 3B qualifiers with four straight wins over the other group members, while Ukraine also dominated Group 3A following their unbeaten run of four matches.

The 2013 Sudirman Cup is one of the world's most prestigious team badminton championships and is being held at the Putra Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from May 19 to 26.

Thirty-one teams from around the world are divided into three groups with twelve teams in the elite group (Group 1) competing for the championship trophy. Vietnam vied for promotion in Group 3B along with Kazakhstan, the Switzerland, Australia and Lithuania.
