Vietnam-Malaysia diplomatic ties celebrated in Hanoi

A ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Malaysia diplomatic relations was held on September 8 at the Hanoi Opera House.

The event was jointly held by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, the Vietnam-Malaysia Friendship Association and the Malaysian Embassy in Vietnam.

In his speech, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for External Relations Vu Hai Ha said the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1973 marked an important beginning in the Vietnam-Malaysia relationship.

He noted that the two countries established a strategic partnership in 2015 based on cultural and historical similarities, as well as a strong foundation of political and diplomatic cooperation.

The Vietnamese official stated that the Vietnam-Malaysia strategic partnership has recorded substantive outcomes in various issues, with economic cooperation serving as the pillar and driving force of bilateral relations.

He expressed his confidence that building on the solid foundation over the past 50 years, the Vietnam-Malaysia strategic partnership will continue to grow strongly, bringing benefits to both countries’ people and contributing to building a united, strong and resilient ASEAN Community.

For his part, Malaysian Ambassador Dato Tan Yang Thai spoke highly of the accomplishments recorded by both countries over the past 50 years and expressed his hope that the bilateral relationship will become stronger and closer.

He underlined the need to promote cooperation in tourism and cultural exchange to enhance understanding between the two countries’ people, especially young people.
