Previously, a record high of 43.3C was reported in Huong Khe, Ha Tinh province on April 20, 2019, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

The north and central provinces faced a heat wave on a large scale from May 4, with severe heat recorded from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen on May 6, with a high temperature of 37C-43C at noon.

Some places saw 43C and higher, such as Lac Son (Hoa Binh), Hoi Xuan (Thanh Hoa), and Tuong Duong (Nghe An).

This is the most intense heat wave on a large scale in May 2023. After this large-scale heat wave, the north and the central regions will see continuous thunderstorms, so the weather next week will be cool.

The heat wave is predicted to end on May 8, due to the impact of cold air.
