The information was announced at a press briefing in Hanoi on June 15, by the General Department of Sports and Physical Training.
This will be the first time the Vietnam Volleyball Federation has been allowed to organise the Asian-level competition for men.
The ten-day event promises some exciting matches amongst the strongest men’s volleyball clubs in the region, including Canberra Heat (Australia), China Beijing Baic Motor (China), Yan Chai (Hong Kong), Sarmayeh Bank (Iran), Al-Bahri (Iraq), Toyota Gosei Trefuerza (Japan), Altay (Kazakhstan), Maldives, Al-Arabi (Qatar), Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Air Force (Thailand) and the Vietnamese national team.
The teams will compete in a round robin tournament in four groups, with the top two placed teams from each group advancing to the knockout round. Hosts Vietnam have been drawn in Group A, alongside Iraq and Sri Lanka.
The champions will represent Asia in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship, to be hosted in Poland, for the first time, from December 11 to 17.
Sarmayeh Bank Tehran of Iran were crowned champions at last year’s tournament in Myanmar, after defeating Qatar’s Al-Arabi with a score of 3-1 in the final clash.
