Addressing the event, Vice President of the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association Lieutenant General Phung Khac Dang called for further efforts from both sides, and appealed on behalf of Vietnam veterans for more support from the US Government to heal old war wounds.

The US veteran business community should also work to establish trade and investment opportunities with the Vietnam business community, Dang suggested.

He also pointed out that Vietnam has found the remains of nearly 1,000 US soldiers, while information provided by the US has also helped Vietnam identify the remains of about 1,150 Vietnamese soldiers.

Rick Weidman, who serves as Executive Director for Policy & Government Affairs of Vietnam Veterans of America, asserted that his Government ‘can’ and ‘should’ offer additional support to help Vietnam; particularly in detoxifying Agent Orange/dioxin and removing unexploded ordnance.

The meeting was held on the occasion of President Truong Tan Sang’s official visit to the US, made at the invitation of President Barack Obama.
