Vietnam wins gold medals at WICO 2019

Eight Vietnamese student teams participated in the World Invention Creativity Olympic (WICO) 2019 in the Republic of Korea (RoK) on July 27; all won gold medals.

In addition, the organising board presented Excellence Award to the Vietnamese delegation. At the same time, two of the eight Vietnamese teams were awarded the Special Awards by the Indonesian Invention and innovation Promotion Association (INNOPA) and Malang Patent Development Research Institute of Indonesia.

WICO is an annual invention and creativity contest organized by the Korea University Invention Association (KUIA) and sponsored by the parliament of the Republic of Korea for secondary and high school students worldwide to present their innovations that can be applied in reality.

At the contest, students must present their research results and answer the questions of the jury. Research topics should be new, creative and practical.

This year’s event took place from July 25 to 27, with the participation of 30 countries, including many strong teams such as the US, Japan, China and Canada. The Vietnamese delegation attended WICO 2019 with 26 students, divided into eight teams, from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School, Luong The Vinh Secondary School and High School; FPT High School; High School of Education Science High School; Giang Vo Secondary School; Nguyen Hue Specialized High School; Le Quy Don High School; Specialized High School of Hanoi Pedagogical University; and Specialized High School of University of Natural Sciences.

According to Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang, Director of the Research Institute of Creative Education (RICE), the topics of the eight Vietnamese teams focused on the biomedical, biochemical, physical and environmental fields. The innovations were highly appreciated for their creativity and practicality by the organisation panel.

After announcing the results, the Vietnamese Embassy in RoK congratulated and honoured the Vietnamese contestants participating in the competition.
