During the reception following the presentation ceremony, President Museveni expressed respect for many Vietnamese leaders such as President Ho Chi Minh, Prime Minister Pham Van Dong, and General Vo Nguyen Giap, and affirmed that the Ugandan people supported Vietnam during their struggle for national liberation.
He expressed his delight at the significant achievements Vietnam has gained in national building and development.
The President instructed Ugandan Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa to pay a visit to Vietnam as soon as possible.
For his part, the Vietnamese diplomat briefed the host on Vietnam’s situation, with a high economic growth rates which has been maintained for many consecutive years. In 2017, Vietnam’s economic growth rate hit 6.81%, with many Vietnamese products among the world’s top exports, such as rice, coffee and cashew nuts, said Ambassador Doanh.
The Ambassador pledged to do his utmost to boost the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
He also underlined the need for increasing delegation exchanges and developing legal frameworks to facilitate trading and investment between the two nations’ firms.
The same day, the ambassador had meetings with the Ugandan Ministers of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives; Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries; and the Secretary in charge of international affairs at the Foreign Ministry. All the officials expressed their desire to forge cooperation with Vietnam in the coming time.
