Born in 1971, Hao has been appreciated for his community projects such as communal houses in Hoa Binh and Quang Nam provinces, and a school for impoverished children in Thai Nguyen province, which aims to benefit people in rural remote areas and ethnic minority groups.

As a graduate of the NUCE, Hao’s designs feature the indigenous cultural identity of the constructions’ locality but also highlights the innovations of technique and craft.

He has won many prestigious domestic and international architectural prizes including the ‘Architect of the Year’ under the Ashui Awards in 2015, the World Architecture Festival in the Civic and Community - Completed Buildings category in 2015, and the International Architecture Awards in 2012.

The biennial SIA-Getz Architecture Prize was launched by the Singapore Institute of Architects and Getz Bros. & Co. (Singapore) in 2005. Dubbed as the Pritzker Prize for the worldwide community of architects, the SIA-Getz Prize aims to recognise and promote emergent Asian architects and architecture that have significantly contributed to the progress of architecture in Asia while increasing public involvement and appreciation of Asian architecture.

The laureates are required to be responsive to new developments in current affairs, economy, culture and society; original in vision; and contributing significantly to the advancement of architecture in Asia.

To date, the award has drawn entries from over 10 countries within Asia including China, Japan, India, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Pakistan, Taiwan and the Philippines.
