A Vietnamese art project titled “Art in the Global Stream” has been chosen for display at the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in Italy, widely regarded as the “Olympics of the Art World”.

Curated by Do Tuong Linh, the project includes works by Le Huu Hieu, born in 1982 in Ha Tinh Province. A painter and visual artist with a background in architecture and archaeological research, Hieu has previously gained recognition in Europe, notably with his solo exhibition “Soul Energy” in Venice in 2021.

In 2023, he became the first Vietnamese artist to receive an invitation from Biennale organisers for the 60th edition. More recently, in October 2025, he was honoured in Tokyo as a “Pioneer Artist on the UNESCO Heritage Journey 2025” by the Federation of UNESCO Associations in Viet Nam and Japan.

The 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia will open in May and run until the end of November at Ca’ Giustinian Faccanon, a 15th-century Gothic palace in Venice that has reopened after more than a year of renovation.

With a history dating back to 1895, the Biennale is one of the world’s most influential art events, held every two years and attracting hundreds of artists, curators, and organisations from across the globe.

This year’s edition will showcase creative projects reflecting contemporary art trends and global issues, featuring 99 national participations and 31 collateral events.
