The Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and AIPSO jointly hosted a ceremony to honour Binh on November 18.

Addressing the event, Pallab Sengupta, Secretary of the National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India and Chairman of the WPC, stressed Binh is one of the most inspiring figures in the global movement for peace, independence, and social justice, noting that she has shone brightly in Viet Nam’s heroic history of struggle.

As the head of the delegation of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Viet Nam at the Paris peace talks on Viet Nam from 1969 to 1973, Binh showed the courage and dignity of Vietnamese women on the world stage, speaking not only for the aspirations of the Vietnamese people but also for all those struggling imperialism and for peace, Sengupta said. He described Binh as a global symbol of peace and dignity.

Expressing her sincere and gratitude to AIPSO, Binh said that the award not only recognises her personally but also honours the collective efforts of those working in people-to-people diplomacy at the Viet Nam Peace Committee (VPC) and the VUFO.

“I am deeply honoured and moved to receive the Romesh Chandra Peace Award, named after the outstanding global peace advocate who devoted his life to the international peace movement, opposing war, promoting justice, and fostering solidarity and friendship among nations,” Binh said.

The same day, the award of this kind was also presented to Uong Chu Luu, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, and Chairman of the VPC; and Tran Dac Loi, former Standing Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, Standing Vice Chairman of the VPC, and Standing Vice Chairman of the VPDC, in recognition of their exceptional contributions to building and promoting the international peace and solidarity movement.

Luu stated that the award serves as a powerful reminder of the responsibility each individual carries today, as peace confronts serious threats from war, conflict, inequality, and violence. He reaffirmed that the Viet Nam Peace Committee will steadfastly pursue its mission, advancing people-to-people diplomacy, strengthening friendship and solidarity between the Vietnamese people and international friends, and actively contributing to global efforts to build a civilised, just, and sustainably developed world.

The Romesh Chandra Award, initiated by AIPSO, is named after Romesh Chandra, Honorary President of the WPC and a shining symbol of the international peace movement. Chandra was also a loyal friend of the Vietnamese people, actively mobilising progressive movements and peace-loving forces worldwide to support Viet Nam’s struggle for independence and freedom.
