The opening ceremony of the exhibition took place with the attendance of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and over 1,000 guests from countries around the world.
Held every two years, the IDEF is among the world’s most prestigious defence industry exhibitions, attracting representatives of governments, defence ministries, military forces, and major global defence industry corporations from around the world.
This year’s exhibition brought together defence companies, military officials, experts and other stakeholders in the defence sector to showcase advanced technologies and explore cooperation opportunities.
The exhibition featured a wide range of products and services, including naval, air, and land systems, military equipment, security devices, weapons, ammunition, and defence electronics.
Viet Nam’s participation in the exhibition demonstrates its interest in international cooperation in the defence industry, affirming that the Vietnamese Government and Ministry of National Defence of consistently create favourable conditions to enhance exchanges and cooperation in this field, based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit, respect for Vietnamese law and international commitments.
Within the framework of the exhibition, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien held a bilateral meeting with Vugar Mustafayev, Minister of Defence Industry of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, praising the defence industry of Azerbaijan, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien noted that during Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Azerbaijan in early May 2025, the defence ministers of the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on defence cooperation.
In implementing the contents of the memorandum, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien expressed his hope that both sides would study and promote cooperation in this field, initially through delegation exchanges to discuss and understand each other’s capabilities and needs.
The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence is willing to welcome a working delegation from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence Industry to Viet Nam in the near future. The General Department of Defence Industry and the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group have been tasked with coordinating with the Azerbaijani side to implement specific cooperation activities.
On the occasion, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien expressed his sincere thanks to the minister for sending a delegation from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence Industry to attend the 2024 Viet Nam International Defence Expo, contributing to its overall success. He also welcomed further participation of delegations, enterprises and defence industry establishments from Azerbaijan in the Viet Nam International Defence Expo scheduled for the end of 2026.
Sharing the points raised by Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Minister Vugar Mustafayev agreed to facilitate opportunities for defence businesses of both countries to engage and seek cooperation potential in the defence industry. He expressed the desire to further develop bilateral cooperation and affirmed Azerbaijan’s readiness to send delegations, enterprises, and defence industry establishments to participate in the upcoming Viet Nam International Defence Expo.
At the exhibition, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien and the delegation visited booths and met with defence companies from Turkey and several other countries.
Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien called on countries and Viet Nam to promote exchanges and explore cooperation opportunities aligned with each side’s capacity, while agreeing on directions to enhance defence industry relations in the coming time.
