Vietnamese fencing strives to overcome difficulties

As one of the 40 sports competing at the upcoming 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) in Vietnam next May, the fencing team set the goal of earning at least four gold medals for the host. Although the goal is not too high, having been unable to compete and train internationally for a long time, the Vietnamese fencing team must strive to overcome difficulties and actively prepare in all aspects, especially in terms of force to complete the assigned task.

Fencing has been included in the Olympic competition system since the first Olympic Games in Athens (Greece) in 1896. It was not until 1924 that female athletes were allowed to compete like their male counterparts. Fencing is one of the nine "classic" sports of the Olympics which have been included in the competition programme since the first Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens (Greece), along with athletics, swimming, gymnastics, shooting, cycling, tennis, weightlifting, and wrestling.
