This tournament is an important preparatory step to review and assess the squad ahead of the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers.
The call-up list notably includes a large number of players from the country’s leading youth football academies, such as PVF, The Cong Viettel, Ha Noi, Song Lam Nghe An and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
Among the standout names are goalkeeper Ly Xuan Hoa, who was named best goalkeeper at the 2024 National U15 Championship, striker Nguyen Van Duong, the tournament’s best player and top scorer, and midfielder Chu Ngoc Nguyen Luc, a key figure from the squad that competed at the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2025 finals.
According to the plan, the U16 Viet Nam national team will begin training on May 10 at the Viet Nam Youth Football Training Centre.
On May 23, the team will travel to China to compete in the CFA Team China 2025 tournament, scheduled from May 28 to June 1.
This tournament gathers top youth teams from the region, including U16 Australia, U16 Saudi Arabia, and hosts U16 China.
Head coach Cristiano Roland shared that his goal is not only focused on the results of this tournament, but more importantly, on evaluating the players’ performance when facing high-level opponents.
Participation in a high-quality international tournament such as CFA Team China 2025 is also part of the Viet Nam Football Federation’s long-term strategy to enhance international competitiveness among youth teams.
U16 Viet Nam will kick off their campaign against U16 Australia on May 28, followed by matches against U16 China and U16 Saudi Arabia on May 30 and June 1, respectively.
