Vietnamese traditional costumes shine on streets of London

Traditional Vietnamese costumes from various historical periods took to the streets of London during the ‘Viet Phuc Bo Hanh London’ (Parade of Vietnamese Costumes in London) event, organised by the Vietnamese Women’s and Children’s Association in the UK.

The parade featured a diverse group of participants, including women, children, teenagers, and the elderly, all dressed in traditional Vietnamese costumes spanning different eras, as well as modern designs. The parade made its way past iconic London landmarks, including Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, and the London Eye.

The procession not only captured the attention of the Vietnamese community but also drew admiration from British locals and international tourists, many of whom stopped to watch, ask questions, express their appreciation, and pose for photos. It was a striking testament to the universal appeal of Vietnamese culture.

The July event was part of the 2025 “Viet Phuc Bo Hanh” series in the UK, which is being held regularly to promote Vietnamese cultural values globally.

Earlier, in April, the series made a successful debut at St Paul’s in London, leaving a lasting impression on both the community and the media. The July programme saw an expansion in scale, featured a wider variety of costumes, and attracted participants spanning multiple generations of the Vietnamese diaspora.

In September, the series will continue at two iconic venues: Battersea Power Station — a creative and cultural complex that bridges past and present, and the Palace of Westminster.

The atmosphere was not only vibrant with colourful garments but also heart-warming with the intergenerational bonds on display, as grandparents, parents, and children marched side by side in traditional costumes.

“We were deeply moved to see entire families — grandparents, parents, and children — all wearing traditional clothing and celebrating Vietnamese identity in the heart of London. The love for our homeland has never faded; it only grows stronger with time,” said Hoang Ha, Head of the event’s organising committee.
