* Spain's Rafael Nadal returned to action with a 6-2 6-2 6-3 Davis Cup win over Germany's Philip Kohlschreiber on Friday to set a record for the longest winning streak in the competition's history. Nadal is on a record run of 23 successive wins in the Davis Cup, having not lost since 2005.

* Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said on Saturday his side will not offer runaway La Liga leaders Barcelona a guard of honour before the 'Clasico' next month if the Catalans are crowned champions before then. Barca currently lead the Liga standings by nine points over nearest challengers Atletico Madrid and are 13 ahead of third-placed Real with seven games remaining.

* Serie A leaders Juventus needed two penalties, the second a hugely controversial one awarded for an alleged trip on Gonzalo Higuain, to win 4-2 at bottom-of-the-table Benevento after the hosts twice came from behind to equalise on April 7.

* Monaco made a big step towards securing second place in Ligue 1 when goals by Radamel Falcao and Rony Lopes earned them a 2-1 comeback home victory against Nantes on Saturday.

* Christian Eriksen maintained his hot goalscoring streak, striking both goals in Tottenham Hotspur's 2-1 win at struggling Stoke City to extend Spurs' winning sequence on Saturday.
