AFF women’s football championship to be held in October

Nhan Dan Online - The 2011 Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship will be held in Laos this October, the AFF Council announced at a recent meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The tournament will involve eight teams, including Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Myanmar, Malaysia and Laos.

Laos will also host the AFF Under-16 Championship 2011 from July 7-17 with the participation of Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Timor Leste, and Indonesia in Group A, and Myanmar, Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia, and the Philippines in Group B.

Thailand and Malaysia will co-host the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012. According to AFF rankings, six national teams including Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines will go straight to the finals while Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Timor Leste will have to play in the qualifying round.
