A ceremony to introduce the costume was held on September 15 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The dress is made of 1,000 metres of fabric, including traditional silk from villages across the country such as Van Phuc, Ha Dong, Tan Chau, Da Nang and Lam Dong. The tunic has nine trains, each 100 metres in length, symbolising the nine branches of the Cuu Long River delta. It is also decorated with over 2,000 diamonds and gold jewelry.

The costume also includes a turban known as a ‘Vietnamese crown’, made from 0.5 kg of gold and was encrusted with 2,000 diamonds.

The set will be modelled by Mai Phuong Thuy, Miss Vietnam 2006, at the Hoi Trung Duong programme, to be held on October 4 in Ho Chi Minh City.
