Athletes get warm send-off ahead of AIMAG 4

Nhan Dan Online - A send-off ceremony was held at the Saigon Opera House in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday for Vietnam athletes who will take part in the upcoming fourth Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games from June 29 to July 6 in Incheon, Republic of Korea.

Top Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem, who was crowned world blitz champion at the recent 2013 World Blitz and Rapid Chess Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, represented the athletes to take oath, pledging to try their best to return victorious from the Games.

On the occasion, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai, authorised by the Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, presented a letter of applause from the PM to Grandmaster Liem in recognition of his brilliant performances in Russia.

The elite Vietnam sports delegation consisting of more than 100 athletes, led by deputy head of General Department of Sports and Physical Training Lam Quang Thanh, plans to leave for Incheon in two days' time. The competitors will vie for medals in 11 sporting events including billiards and snooker (13 players), short-course swimming (6), chess (6),muay(5), kickboxing (9), dance sport (8), kurash (5), kabaddi (7), bowling (4), eSports (10) and futsal (33).

The national contingent, with the presence of prominent faces such as Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (chess); Nguyen Thi Anh Vien and Hoang Quy Phuoc (swimming); Ma Xuan Cuong and Ngo Dinh Nai (billiards and snooker), is expected to create a big stir at the upcoming Games and fulfill its goal of winning at least nine gold medals and finishing among top 15 out of 45 participating countries.
