Awards presented for writing campaign “Vietnamese Rice – Roots and Future”

The Viet Nam Rice Industry Association (VIETRISA) reviewed and presented awards for the writing campaign “Vietnamese Rice – Roots and Future” in Ho Chi Minh City on July 2.

The campaign was organised with the desire to evoke love for the homeland, pride in Vietnamese rice, and creative inspiration among the community, and received a strong response from a large number of authors nationwide.

In the year following its launch, from May 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026, the writing campaign “Vietnamese Rice - Roots and Future” attracted 1,328 entries from 514 authors. These included 67 songs, 446 prose works, and 815 poems.

A total of 20 songs, 43 prose works, and 60 poems were selected to enter the final round.

According to the final jury, the theme of the campaign was highly meaningful, affirming the value of Viet Nam’s rice sector and directly evoking Vietnamese people’s special emotions about the beauty of fields, villages, and the country. The campaign saw the participation of many professional authors, including more than 50 members of the Viet Nam Writers’ Association and the Viet Nam Musicians’ Association.

In the song category, Dr Bui Ba Bong, Chairman of VIETRISA, presented the special prize to “Hat ngoc vuon minh – The Pearl Grain Rises” (Music and lyrics: Thanh Tam SEA – Minh Dan) while the first prize went to “Vao mua gat – In the Harvest Season” (Poem: Quoc Phong – Music: Dang Quang Vinh).

In the prose category, Labour Hero Ho Quang Cua presented the special prize to “Nang niu hat gao que nha” (Cherishing the Rice Grain of Home) by author Le Thi, an overseas Vietnamese in the US state of Ohio, while the first prize went to “Cay lua dat dao tinh nguoi que lua” (The Rice Plant Brimming with the Warmth of the Rice Homeland) by author Do Trong Khoi (103/CT3, Group 8, Zone 5 Urban Area, Tran Hung Dao Ward, Hung Yen Province).

In the poetry category, the Young Writers’ Committee under the Ho Chi Minh City Writers’ Association presented the special prize to Le Nguyen Kieu My, a student of class 10CH2 at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted in Ho Chi Minh City, while the first prize went to Dinh Nho Tuan from Binh Trung Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, for the poems “Nhung canh dong que huong” (Homeland Fields), “Voi canh dong” (With the Field), and “Nong dan” (Farmers).
