Addressing the event, Moroccan Ambassador to Viet Nam Jamale Chouaibi highlighted Morocco’s significant advances in industry, infrastructure and sustainable development. He noted Morocco’s position as Africa’s leading automotive producer and exporter, with an annual capacity of one million vehicles, and as an emerging aerospace hub supplying high-quality components to global markets.
Morocco has also established itself as a renewable energy leader in Africa, targeting 52% renewables in electricity generation by 2030 and 60% by 2040. Preparations to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal were described as catalysts for investment in transport, sports facilities and urban development, with long-term benefits for future generations.
The Ambassador warmly congratulated Viet Nam on its impressive development under the leadership of the Communist Party and the success of the 14th National Party Congress. He pointed to Viet Nam’s recent reclassification by the World Bank as an upper middle-income economy as evidence of sustained economic performance and expansion, and as a foundation for greater prosperity and regional stability.
Over the past decades, the two countries have fostered cooperation through political dialogue, parliamentary exchanges, people-to-people links and economic partnership, while supporting each other in international organisations.
He stressed that 2026 is particularly significant as it marks the 65th anniversary of Viet Nam–Morocco diplomatic ties, built on mutual respect, trust and shared commitments to peace and development. Over these decades, the two countries have fostered cooperation through political dialogue, parliamentary exchanges, people-to-people links and economic partnership, while supporting each other in international organisations.
Chouaibi underscored practical cooperation: bilateral trade reached around 380 million USD in 2025, with ambitions to raise this further, and opportunities identified in renewable energy, agriculture, fertilisers, textiles and green development. He described Morocco as a gateway to Africa and Viet Nam as a gateway to Southeast Asia, capable of creating new opportunities for businesses and citizens. Education and cultural exchange remain central, with Morocco continuing to offer annual scholarships to Vietnamese students.
He expressed his belief that, guided by mutual respect, solidarity and cooperation, Morocco and Viet Nam can elevate their partnership to new heights as a model transcending geography and culture.
On behalf of the Government and people of Viet Nam, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Anh Tuan extended heartfelt congratulations to King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan Government and people, praising Morocco’s rich history, strategic position and remarkable advances in industrialisation, innovation, energy transition and sustainable development.
He expressed confidence that, under the King’s visionary leadership, Morocco will continue to prosper and enhance its regional and global standing.
He noted with satisfaction that bilateral ties have strengthened across many fields, with regular high-level exchanges, with the most recent official visit to Morocco by Viet Nam’s National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man in July 2025 as further evidence of excellent political relations.
Morocco is now Viet Nam’s leading economic partner in North Africa. Bilateral trade reached over 380 million USD in 2025, up 25% year on year, and in the first five months of 2026 alone reached 228 million USD. Viet Nam hopes Morocco will continue to act as a gateway for expanding cooperation with African markets.
He took the occasion to thank the Government of Morocco for granting scholarships to Vietnamese students, expressing confidence that younger generations will nurture even closer friendship between the two countries.
The diplomat reaffirmed the Vietnamese Government’s commitment to working closely with Morocco to implement bilateral mechanisms effectively, adding that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam, together with relevant ministries and agencies, will strengthen coordination with the Embassy to further deepen the substantive partnership between the two countries, for the shared interests of the two peoples.
