Construction sector urged to continue developing affordable housing

The construction sector needs to continue focusing on affordable housing development and work out reasonable measures as well as long-term policies to make it easier for poor people and policy beneficiaries to access buying affordable houses.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh made the request while addressing a conference in Hanoi on January 15 on implementation of tasks for the construction sector in 2016.

The deputy PM praised the sector’s outstanding achievements in 2015 and the 2011-2015 period, which he said contributed significantly to the common outcomes of the country’s national socio-economic development.

He also gave special praise to the Construction Ministry for recommending and implementing practical measures in a timely manner to remove difficulties for the real estate market; expanding the recipients of preferential housing policies; and adjusting the structure of real estate towards meeting the society’s general demand, especially the demand for affordable housing among policy beneficiaries.

Ninh urged the construction sector to be more proactive in management and anticipate the situation to give timely and effective responses; continue to finalise mechanisms and the legal framework on construction; improve the quality of planning and planning management; enhance construction inspection and strictly handle violations.

The sector also needs to keep rearranging and restructuring its state-owned enterprises (SOEs), while renovating methods in SOE administration, he added.

In regards to key tasks for 2016, Minister of Construction Trinh Dinh Dung said that the sector would focus on lifting difficulties for the real estate market associated with realising the National Housing Development Strategy, enhancing the quality of planning, implementing the Law on Housing and instructive documents, and restructuring the sector.
