With much higher world ratings, Vietnam’s top female masters, including Hoang Thi Bao Tram (Elo 2283), Nguyen Thi Mai Hung (Elo 2282), Hoang Thi Nhu Y (Elo 2247) and Nguyen Thi Thanh An (Elo 2239), easily emerged as victors over their respective UAE opponents, Saleh Nora Mohd (Elo 1920), Al-Zarouni Kholoud Essa (Elo 1861), Abeer Ali (Elo 1644) and Wadima Humaid S H Alkalbani (Elo 1629).
The effortless victory made Vietnam the only team to maintain a winning streak after four rounds. Earlier in the previous three matches, Vietnam finished off Sri Lanka, another UAE team and Iran with respective scores of 3.5-0.5, 4-0 and 3-1.
Notably, Hoang Thi Nhu Y of Vietnam was one of two players to win all four matches, alongside Soumya Swaminathan of India.
Regarding the Open (men’s category), Vietnam temporarily stood in fifth position, scoring 10 points after four rounds (two wins, one draw and one loss).
The tournament has attracted the participation of 22 men’s teams and 10 women’s team representing 20 countries from across Asia, vying for the right to represent Asia in the World Chess Team Championship. It features three events: standard, blitz and rapid, with the Open tournament played according to a nine-round Swiss system and the women’s category played in a round robin format.
