First Vietnamese-made dry dock opened in Ho Chi Minh City

Nhan Dan – The Saigon Ship Industry Corporation (SSIC) inaugurated the first dry dock designed and constructed entirely by Vietnamese engineers and workers on July 20 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The new dock is the largest of its kind in southern Vietnam and can accommodate ships with acapacity up to 25,000 DWT.

The dry dock, 186 metres long, 30 metres wide and 8.2 metres high, is equipped with modern facilities such as a compressed oxygen system, a 300-metre long pier and a 50-tonne mobile crane.

On the same day, the SSIC handed over the ship ‘New Lucky VII’ to the Franbo Lines Corporation from Taiwan, China.

The US$7.27 million vessel is a freighter for timber products and has a capacity of 6,850 DWT.

The ‘New Lucky VII’ is the third ship SSIC has built and transferred to the Franco Lines Corporation in the past year.
