The campaign is the 11th of its kind to be hosted by the Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Saigon) Newspaper and the Saigon Union of Trading Co-operatives (Saigon Co.op).
The 2020 event will see the launch of the Green Community Fund, which hopes to provide freshwater to the Mekong River Delta, build green schools, and support children with cancer.
This year, the organising board will also expand the implementation of a project on helping the public identify environmentally friendly products and stimulate consumption demand. The project also aims to support businesses that produce green and safe products.
Under the project, several supermarkets of the Co.opmart chain will be selected to set up 50 venues for customers to identify green products by participating businesses, which are stamped with distinct labels.
Do Quoc Huy, marketing director of Saigon Co.op, said that the supermarket system will offer promotional discounts on green products in order to encourage green consumption in the community
Saigon Co.op will also replace plastic bags with eco-friendly biodegradable plastic bags.
Ly Viet Trung - deputy editor-in-chief of Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper, said the event is the first and largest campaign encouraging pro-environmental consumption behaviour.
