Integrating disaster prevention, mitigation and response in the education sector

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the Ministry of Education and Training and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Vietnam to organise a summary of a series of activities in response to the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (October 13) in the central city of Da Nang on October 5.

The programme attracted nearly 1,000 students and teachers from primary and secondary schools in Thanh Khe and Lien Chieu districts. The theme of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction on October 13 this year is “Empowering the next generation for a disaster-free future”.

The series of activities in response was held in Thanh Khe District, Da Nang City, with many practical and meaningful activities such as training on guidelines for organising extracurricular activities on the topic of disaster prevention and response in schools, a painting contest on perspectives before natural disasters and extracurricular activities on painting murals on the theme of ready for natural disasters and climate change, etc.

On this occasion, a signing ceremony of the program for coordinating the integration of knowledge on natural disaster prevention, control and mitigation in the education and training sector between the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Da Nang City and the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City took place. Da Nang is the pioneer in committing to implementing coordination activities in the coming time.
