On the morning of May 8, the turtle, which is included in Vietnam’s red list of threatened species, was caught by Nguyen Hai Da near the Bai Dong area of Tho Chau Island.

After being persuaded by the border guard, Da voluntarily let the animal go. The turtle measures 1.2 metres long and 0.8 metres in width.

A few days before, three sea turtles weighing a total of 271 kilograms were also freed into the sea in a joint effort between the Phu Quoc National Park, the border guard and local authorities.

The three turtles were purchased by a household in Kien Luong District, from fishing boats and then handed over to the district’s economic department.

They were later transferred to the Phu Quoc National Park for nature release.
