This enduring friendship has provided additional strength for Laos to press ahead firmly on its path of national construction.
After nearly 40 years of renewal, the Party, State and people of Laos have attained significant and comprehensive achievements in national development.
Laopaosong Navongxay, Permanent Deputy Head of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee’s Propaganda and Training Board, stated that under the LPRP’s sound leadership, Laos has overcome countless difficulties and challenges to secure major, comprehensive accomplishments, particularly in improving people’s living standards and maintaining political stability, while also preserving and promoting national cultural identity as a spiritual foundation for development.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently forecast that Laos will achieve stable growth of around 4.5% during 2025-2026, driven mainly by exports, tourism, foreign direct investment, and an expansionary fiscal policy expected to be introduced in 2026.
By pursuing a consistent foreign policy of peace, independence, friendship, and cooperation, Laos has been actively expanding its relations with countries in the region and across the world, helping to elevate its standing and advance international integration.
To date, Laos has established diplomatic relations with about 150 countries. Since joining ASEAN in 1997, Laos has steadily affirmed its important role within ASEAN, successfully assuming the bloc’s chairmanship three times in 2004, 2016, and 2024. This is clear evidence that Laos’s position on the international stage is increasingly strengthened.
The country’s major achievements in politics, the economy, society, security, and foreign affairs affirm the sound leadership of the LPRP. These accomplishments are not only deeply meaningful for Laos’s cause of national construction, defence, and development, but also serve as a profound source of encouragement for the Party, State, and people of Viet Nam in their own renewal and development process.
Viet Nam and Laos have always stood shoulder to shoulder, fighting side by side against common enemies to secure national independence. Today, the two countries continue to walk together in socio-economic development. Political relations have become increasingly close and trusted, playing a central and guiding role in the overall bilateral relationship. Cooperation in trade, national defence and security, culture, education, and coordination at regional and international forums has all produced substantive results.
Not only focusing on strengthening bilateral ties, Viet Nam and Laos, together with Cambodia, also attach importance to promoting relations among the three countries and effectively implementing trilateral cooperation mechanisms.
Looking back on the journey travelled, the peoples of Viet Nam and Laos both take pride in the formation and development of the rare faithful and pure relationship between the two nations.
Viet Nam and Laos have traversed a long path together, always standing side by side and ready to make sacrifices for one another.
This journey is being continued by successive generations of leaders and people of both countries, ensuring that the Viet Nam-Laos friendship and enduring bond will remain a solid foundation for both nations as they advance along their development paths, where opportunities and challenges are intertwined.
