Le Quang Liem defeats reigning World Cup champion

Vietnam's No. 1 chess player Le Quang Liem defeated Jan-Krzysztof Duda from Poland in a series of matches at the Champions Chess Tour - Charity Cup on March 22.

Grandmaster Jan-Krzysztof Duda, at 23 years old, is currently the reigning chess World Cup champion. He currently stands in 16th place in the world rankings for standard chess with an Elo rating of 2,750.

After beating the Polish grandmaster, Quang Liem drew against Pentala Harikrishna (India), defeated Eric Hansen (Canada), and lost to Ding Liren (China).

Quang Liem is creating a miracle as he now ranks above “King of Chess” Magnus Carlsen and is also the player with the most points in the tournament's history (27).

On March 23, Quang Liem will play the last 3 games with Magnus Carlsen (Norway), David Navara (the Czech Republic) and Richard Rapport (Hungary).
