At the event, Nguyen Trung Kien, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, stated that the Committee is proposing to higher authorities that a delegation of overseas Vietnamese representatives take part in the official ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of Viet Nam’s National Day.
This initiative is in response to the aspirations of the overseas Vietnamese community to be directly involved in important national events and celebrations. It also reflects the nation’s appreciation for the role and contributions of overseas Vietnamese in the struggle for independence and in the current process of socio-economic development.
Nguyen Trung Kien also announced that the Committee will organise a Vietnamese language teaching training course for 80 teachers from 15 countries and territories. This training course is scheduled to take place from August 13 to 28 in Ha Noi and several other localities, including Ninh Binh and Thai Nguyen.
The aim of the training is to improve the quality of teaching, professional standards, and pedagogical skills of overseas Vietnamese teachers, in line with a curriculum tailored specifically for overseas Vietnamese.
This is one of the key initiatives in community support efforts and contributes to building, strengthening, and developing organisations and activities related to the Vietnamese language within overseas Vietnamese communities.
Since 2013, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Training and relevant agencies, has organised 12 training courses for over 890 overseas Vietnamese teachers.
Running from March 29 to August 21, this year’s “Search for Vietnamese Language Ambassadors Abroad” contest attracted a large number of overseas Vietnamese participants. Over 50 entries were submitted, with diverse and engaging content expressing a deep love for the Vietnamese language as well as pride in their homeland and country from Vietnamese people around the world.
Praising the role of Vietnamese language ambassadors, Nguyen Trung Kien noted that these individuals not only exemplify the use, preservation and promotion of Vietnamese within the overseas community, but also act as cultural bridges helping to promote Viet Nam’s image and people to the world.
In August, the closing ceremony of the “Day Honouring the Vietnamese Language in the Overseas Vietnamese Community 2025” is set to be held on August 14 in Ha Noi, combining in-person and online formats. The event will review outcomes of activities in response to the Vietnamese Language Honouring Day in 2024–2025, and provide a forum to discuss and propose future directions for implementation.
Together with it, the “Beloved Vietnamese Language” Gala and the awards ceremony of the “Search for Vietnamese Language Ambassadors Abroad” contest are scheduled for August 21 under the theme “The River Flows On – Connecting All Directions.”
Commenting on the theme, Nguyen Trung Kien said that “The River Flows On – Connecting All Directions” evokes the image of the Vietnamese language as a persistent current of history, culture, and the national soul, continuously flowing through space and time.
The programme aims to honour the beauty of the Vietnamese language and promote it among Vietnamese communities worldwide, as a sacred symbol linking roots and future generations.
Highlighting the preservation of Vietnamese cultural identity, Nguyen Trung Kien remarked that the Vietnamese language is the soul of Vietnamese culture. Every word, every proverb, folk verse or lullaby reflects the deep identity of the nation.
Through the stories, examples and creative efforts of Vietnamese language ambassadors, the programme inspires a deep love for the Vietnamese language, a sense of attachment to the homeland, and nurtures the desire to remain connected to Vietnamese culture among all overseas Vietnamese.
