Minister of Planning and Investment works with Dien Bien Province

Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung held a working session with the authorities of the northern province of Dien Bien on April 15, within the framework of his working visit to the province.

Le Thanh Do, Chairman of the Dien Bien Provincial People’s Committee, reported on the province’s socio-economic development in the first quarter of this year. The GDRP is estimated to have expanded 6.07% over the same period last year, while the total retail sales of goods and services surged by 15.63%. In addition, the tourism revenue in the first three months of this year rose 1.48 times.

Minister Dung recognised outstanding results of Dien Bien Province, noting that the province should focus on improving the life of the locals, ensuring social security, and promoting the economy based on its strengths. The province also needs to ensure defence and security, especially in border areas.

In the field of agriculture, the minister suggested the province boost existing advantages and consider the trial cultivation of avocado trees. It is also necessary to strengthen the promotion of cultural and tourism values to stimulate the tourism industry.

The government official also asked Dien Bien to hasten the disbursement of public investment for national target programmes and pay special attention to enhancing administrative reform and investment environment.

Within the framework of the working visit, Minister Dung presented 50 gifts to former Dien Bien soldiers as well as scholarships and 300 million VND to Nam Vi Primary Boarding School in Muong Nhe District. He also provided the local authorities with 900 million VND in financial support to build a bridge in Vang Ho Village, Nam Vi Commune, Muong Nhe District.
