Nguyen Tien Minh wins Vietnam Grand Prix Open

Nhan Dan – The top Vietnamese badminton player, Nguyen Tien Minh, claimed the championship title after defeating his Japanese rival, Sho Sasaki, 2-0 in the men’s singles final at the Yonex - Sunrise Vietnam Grand Prix Open 2011 in Ho Chi Minh City on August 28.

With a straight forward 21-13 and 21-17 victory in two sets, Tien Minh avenged his recent US Open final loss to world No.9 Sho Sasaki to keep his record of winning all his matches in the men’s singles event.

The top Vietnamese player easily beat Indian opponent Gurusaidutt earlier in the semi-finals.

Tien Minh’s victory over Sho Sasaki allowed him to retain his seventh place in the world rankings.

In addition to a cash prize of US$3,750 for winning the championship, Tien Minh also received a US$2,000 bonus from the Ho Chi Minh City Badminton Association chairman Nguyen Phuong Nam and VND 10 million (US$500) from the Thai Le Ltd Company.
