At the same time, the island district also calls on each islander to uphold a sense of responsibility, and actively participate in and organise zero-plastic waste activities with specific and practical actions.
Co To island district (Quang Ninh) has become a famous tourist destination, attracting many domestic and foreign tourists.
However, the environment on the island is seriously affected by the amount of garbage from domestic and tourist activities, especially plastic waste. Co To is implementing solutions to clean up the beaches.
To minimize the harmful effects of plastic bags and plastic waste throughout the district, in 2021, the Co To District Party Committee approved the "Zero plastic waste" project in Co To district to raise awareness of the local authorities.
Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of the Co To District People's Committee Nguyen Viet Dung said that building Co To into an island district without plastic waste is a long-term activity, requiring reasonable plans, synchronous and drastic implementation.
Therefore, the district calls for the cooperation and participation with the highest determination of the whole political system and the people in close coordination between all levels, branches, socio-political organisations and the armed forces, to develop sanctions and legal basis for effective implementation of environmental protection and plastic waste reduction, while promoting the organisation of propaganda in many visual forms to people and visitors.
