NDO – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just signed Decision No.1410/QD-TTg, consolidating the National Steering Committee for Electricity Development to assist the PM in directing the formulation and implementation of the national electricity development planning and key power projects.

Accordingly, Deputy PM Le Van Thanh will be assigned as the Head of the National Steering Committee for Electricity Development and Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien will be assigned as the Permanent Deputy Head of the Steering Committee.

Other Deputy Heads include: Cao Xuan Thanh, Assistant to former Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An; Deputy Minister of Construction Le Quang Hung; and Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Management of State Capital at Enterprises Ho Sy Hung.

The Steering Committee is responsible for directing, inspecting and urging the elaboration of the national electricity development planning, investment and construction of power source and grid projects in the national electricity development planning/projects approved by the PM, especially key projects (approved by the PM on the basis of the Ministry of Industry and Trade's proposals) to ensure sufficient electricity supply for national socio-economic development.

In addition, the committee is assigned to direct, inspect and urge the implementation of guidelines and policies on electricity trading with foreign countries, developing renewable energy; directing, inspecting and encouraging the construction of infrastructure for the import of coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG), and the negotiation and signing of coal and LNG import contracts for power source projects.

At the same time, it is also responsible for directing relevant ministries, branches, and provincial People’s Committees, together with investors, domestic and foreign consulting organisations, and contractors, to carry out the contents of their tasks to ensure the construction progress and quality of works; and directing and coordinating with relevant branches and localities to solve problems arising in the implementation of compensation, support, migration, resettlement and site clearance of power projects.
