According to the Tra Vinh Provincial Party Committee, during the wars against colonial and imperialist invaders, many local people and soldiers made heroic sacrifices for the revolutionary cause of national liberation and reunification. In recognition of these sacrifices, the Party and the State have granted the province numerous prestigious awards, including a flag bearing the golden slogan “All people rise up, are united to achieve victory”.

Re-established in May 1992, Tra Vinh faced numerous socio-economic challenges. The province had low budget revenues, poor transportation infrastructure, and underdeveloped cultural, social, healthcare, and education sectors, with a relatively high poverty rate.

Upholding its patriotic spirit, traditional resilience, and strong determination, the Party, government, and people of Tra Vinh have united to overcome difficulties, striving for progress and achieving remarkable transformations across all sectors.

The province has consistently maintained positive GRDP growth of 11.95% from 2015 to 2020. Its GRDP grew by 10.0% in 2024, the GRDP reached 10.04%, ranking 8th nationwide and first in the Mekong Delta region.

Tra Vinh’s economy is now valued at over 96.6 trillion VND. In 2024, its per capita income surpassed 94.3 million VND —129 times higher than in 1992.

The province is home to more than 5,800 businesses, including numerous FDI enterprises, creating jobs for over 106,000 workers. As of now, there are only 2,493 poor households in the province, accounting for just 0.87% of the total population.

Tra Vinh has achieved remarkable success in new-style rural development as 100% of its communes meeting the national new rural standards, 60% achieving advanced new rural status, and 10.6% reaching model new rural standards. All nine district-level units have met or completed their new-style rural development goals, with Tieu Can and Cau Ke districts achieving advanced status.

In 2024, the Prime Minister officially recognised Tra Vinh for completing its national target of building new-style rural areas.
