The event was also attended by former Politburo member and Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung; Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue; representatives from central ministries, departments and sectors; local leaders and tourists from across the country.
From its early days as a pristine fishing village, Cua Lo has now developed into a young and vibrant tourism city with its tourism trademark affirmed in the hearts of friends and visitors from both at home and abroad.
Alongside handicraft villages, the town has been focusing on promoting services and tourism as its spearhead economic sectors. Cua Lo has enjoyed an annual economic growth rate of 15-20%, with budget revenues increasing from VND4 billion (US$176,000) in 1994 to VND305.6 billion (US$13.45 million) in 2016.
Aiming to attract more tourists, Cua Lo has unceasingly developed additional tourism products, destinations and new routes, including the Cua Lo-Vinh city - Bai Lu Resort-Nam Dan (Uncle Ho’s hometown) - Do Luong-Dien Chau (a wild animal preservation area) -Nghia Dan (a milk cow breeding farm and a TH True Milk and Vinamilk production area) - Con Cuong (Pu Mat Biosphere Reserves) - Thanh Chuong (a tea island and Thanh Thuy border gate).
Among the festivities are a whale worshipping festival, a weekly street music performance, an arts performance on June May night to mark 110 years of Cua Lo tourism, a national beach sepak takraw tournament and a trade fair.
In 2017, Cua Lo town will strive to welcome over 1.8 million tourist arrivals (up 10% year on year), earning a revenue of VND1.63 trillion (US$71.72 million), up 15% against 2016.
The Nghe An provincial Department of Tourism announced that during the peak days of the 2017 Cua Lo tourism season (April 28-May 7), the entire Cua Lo town will be covered with free Wifi.
