President Vo Van Thuong pays tribute to national heroes in Con Dao

President Vo Van Thuong commemorated heroes and martyrs at the Hang Duong Cemetery on Con Dao Island on July 19 on the occasion of the upcoming Day for Wounded and Fallen Soldiers.

He was joined by former Presidents Nguyen Minh Triet and Truong Tan Sang, other senior Party officials, former Con Dao political prisoners, representatives of ministries, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, the 7th Military Region and local residents.

The delegates solemnly offered incense and flowers to express their deep gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.

In an eulogy read at Hang Duong Cemetery, a Con Dao leader stated that the contributions of heroes, martyrs, revolutionaries and patriots have gone down in national history as an immortal epic and will never be forgotten.

On Con Dao Island, President Vo Van Thuong and members of the delegation also attended a ceremony to commemorate the death of national heroes held at the Con Dao Memorial Temple.

Hang Duong Cemetery is home to 1,922 graves while the Con Dao Memorial Temple has the names of 2,284 martyrs inscribed on a stone stele.
