Accordingly, the 2015 SEA Games will feature 36 sports, 24 of which are contested at the Olympics, with 402 sets of medals.
Some Vietnam’s strengths—including chess, vovinam, wrestling, karatedo and weightlifting—are not included in the disciplines.
However, this is an opportunity for Vietnamese sports to push forwards the development of basic sports available at the Asiad and the Olympic Games, such as athletics and swimming.
At the 27th SEA Games, held in Myanmar last year, the Vietnam sports delegation won third place with 73 gold, 86 silver and 86 bronze medals.
