Soc Trang city meets criteria of second-class city

Soc Trang city has just been appraised and recognised by the Ministry of Construction as a second-class city under Soc Trang province.

Vice Chairman of Soc Trang City’s People Committee Lam Hoang Nghiep announced the information on March 17.

The Ministry of Construction has just appraised the proposal to recognise Soc Trang city as a second-class city directly under Soc Trang province. The Appraisal Council scored 88.72 points, recognising Soc Trang as a second-class city.

The zoning planning of Soc Trang city has reached 89.37% which is the basis for the city to make detailed planning for the implementation of investment projects for socio-economic development.

Soc Trang city was recognised by the Ministry of Construction as a third-class city in 2005. The city has a total area of about 7,599ha, 10 wards, and a total population of 203,056. The average economic growth rate of the city was 15.81% in the 2018-2020 period.

The city’s total retail sales of goods and services reached over 28.3 trillion VND in 2021, up 1.3% over 2020, accounting for 54% of the total retail sales of goods and services of the entire province.

The city’s industrial production reached over 14.4 trillion VND in 2021, up 12.6% over the previous year. The per capita income was posted at 91.5 million VND per person per year, up 3% over 2020.
