Vietnam logs additional 175 new COVID-19 cases

Vietnam logged 175 new COVID-19 cases, including five imported and 170 local infections, over the last six hours to 12:pm on July 2, raising the national count to 17,902, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Among the new domestic infections, 151 were found in Ho Chi Minh City, 10 in Phu Yen, three in Hung Yen, two in Long An and one each in Tra Vinh, Hai Phong, Bac Giang and Bac Ninh. Of them, 143 were detected in quarantine and locked-down areas.

The number of cases since the fourth COVID-19 wave hit the country in late April amounted to 14,505.

The number of recoveries totals 7,247, while the death toll remains at 81.

Among active patients undergoing treatment, 260 have tested negative for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, 138 twice and 89 thrice.

More than 234,000 people, who had close contact with COVID-19 patients or entered Vietnam from pandemic-hit regions, are under quarantine across the country.

Facing the complicated development of the COVID-19 epidemic, the People’s Committee of the southern province of Long An has applied social distancing according to Prime Minister’s Directive No.15/CT-TTgfrom July 2 until further notice.

Accordingly, local residents are to stay at home and should only go out in case of necessity, such as buying food, foodstuff and medicine, and emergencies.

When going out, they need to wear face masks and keep physical distance at schools, hospitals and other public places.

Employees of State agencies will work online and transport services will be suspended in the province, except for the transportation of food and other necessities, as well as of workers, experts and production materials.

The provincial Department of Health said that the whole province has recorded 123 positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 in the community in the following districts: Can Duoc, Can Giuoc, Duc Hoa, Ben Luc, Tan An City, Tan Thanh. Vinh Hung, Tan Hung and Duc Hue.
