Gifts presented to needy children in central region

As many as 300 disadvantaged children with good academic recordswere presented with gifts at a ceremony to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival at the Da Nang Children Cultural House on September 22.

The event titled “Lighting up dreams”,was held for the fifth time by the Vietnam Association Protection of Children’s Rights.

At the ceremony, children were entertained with song and dance performances and held exchanges with other children of similar backgrounds.

The organising board also presented gifts and scholarships to 300 children from the central provinces and cities of ThanhHoa, Quang Tri, ThuaThien – Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam and Dong Nai.

Earlier, the “Lighting up dreams” programme granted 1,000 gifts worth more than VND1 billion (US$43,000) to disadvantaged children in Quang Tri, ThuaThien – Hue, BinhDinh, Quang Nam, Phu Yen and BinhPhuoc.

The annual event has been held since 2014 with the aim of encouraging and providing scholarships to disadvantaged children to overcome difficulties andrealise their dreams.

So far, nearly 10,000 children across the country have been provided with scholarships, savings accounts and 40,000 gifts worth a total of more than VND10 billion (US$430,000).
